Kylian Mbappe has been excluded from Real Madrid’s squad for their crucial FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Group H clash against Red Bull Salzburg, set to take place on Thursday in Philadelphia, USA.
This marks the third straight match under the management of Xabi Alonso, who recently succeeded Carlo Ancelotti as head coach. Real Madrid, one of the tournament favorites, earned qualification by winning the UEFA Champions League titles in 2021–22 and 2023–24, with their most recent triumph coming over Borussia Dortmund to secure a record 15th European crown.
Why Is Mbappe Missing Real Madrid vs Salzburg?
Despite returning to training, Kylian Mbappe was left out of the 23-man squad announced by Xabi Alonso. The decision comes after the French star missed Real Madrid’s first two matches in the United States due to a recent bout of gastroenteritis.
Last Thursday, Mbappe was hospitalized for medical tests and treatment related to the illness but was discharged after stabilizing. Although he rejoined training on Wednesday, the club has opted to rest him for precautionary reasons ahead of the knockout stages.
As a result, Mbappe was absent from the squad for both the 1-1 draw against Al-Hilal in Miami and the 3-1 win over Pachuca in the second group game. His recovery is being closely monitored by the medical team, and he is expected to return later in the tournament if Real Madrid progresses.
